PROPANE SAFETY TIPS

 Propane and gasoline are DEADLY!!!!

Have a qualified technician perform a leakdown test on your RV or Camper at least yearly.

If you smell gas in your camper, leave the door open, shut off the gas, and do not turn on any electrical switches!

Propane may smell like a dead animal, or sewer gas. A camper or RV full of gas is a bomb!!

Before you use or refuel your camper, be sure you know how to shut off the appliances and the gas bottles.  When your appliances are running, you have an open flame source, and if exposed to propane, gasoline, OR  diesel fuel, YOU HAVE A POTENTIAL EXPLOSION OR FIRE THAT CAN KILL OR INJURE YOU OR ANYONE CLOSE WHEN REFUELING OR USING YOUR CAMPER!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, PAY ATTENTION!!

When you stop to refuel your vehicle or fill your propane bottles, be sure to shut your appliances off with the off/on switch on the appliance, or you  have the possibility of open flame or ignition spark when they are running.

Most of the new campers have electronic ignition, and the refrigerator has a pilot flame running when operated  in gas mode. Some water heaters also have a pilot light. This can lead to a disaster if you are around gasoline or propane fumes! Diesel fuel is also flammable under the right conditions. The water heater can come on at any time if it is left on. Shut off all appliances when refueling or filling any gas bottles!

A family in Colorado BURNED DOWN A GAS STATION while refueling their RV. The water heater was left on, and the water heater kicked on while the owner was pumping gas, and the resulting fire destroyed the gas station, and the RV owner was injured. Luckily no one was killed!

Before you refuel your gas or propane tanks:

TURN YOUR APPLIANCES OFF WITH THE ON/OFF SWITCH. If you have a battery disconnect switch, that is an easy way to shut  down the appliances.

SHUT YOUR CELL PHONE OFF.

SHUT YOUR VEHICLE OFF.

DON'T RE-ENTER THE VEHICLE WHILE FUELING, YOU CAN GET A STATIC SPARK.

SHUT YOUR PROPANE TANKS OFF AT THE VALVE.

LOOK FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, ALL FUEL STATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THEM.

MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS OUT OF THE CAMPER BEFORE  RE FUELING.

MAKE SURE THE SAFETY CAP IS ON AND THE OVERFILL VENT VALVE IS CLOSED BEFORE YOU LEAVE, DON'T TURN THE APPLIANCES BACK ON TILL YOU'RE AWAY FROM THE FUEL STATION. A SPARK OR FLAME CAN BE DEADLY!!

REMEMBER TO TURN THE APLIANCES AND THE GAS VALVE ON AFTER REFUELING.  A WARM FRIDGE IS NOT A PLEASANT SURPRISE.

BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURERS DIRECTIONS CONCERNING OPERATION AND USE OF YOUR APPLIANCES.
